"On The Front Lines Of The Overdose Epidemic In Baltimore" Published November 2016. Article by Dan Vergano. All photos by Kelsey Krach. As a wave of heroin overdoses strikes West Baltimore, a medical team warns a stricken neighborhood and hands out last-ditch doses of lifesaving medication.

This series was particularly impactful to me as I started my role at the Baltimore City Health Department. Many people do not get the opportunity to see the Needle Exchange Van unless they are requiring services. I appreciate this photo series because it humanizes substance use disorder and opioid addiction. I hope that these photographs provide insight for people who do not know much about the experience of addiction and seeking help.
